As an established health, safety and environmental management consultancy, we have an exciting vacancy that has arisen. Our standard is for all consultants to achieve Chartered Safety Practitioner status and we are committed to providing training, mentoring and development to someone with the right attitude and background to achieve this level. We also welcome anyone who has already achieved Chartered Status.
We are looking for someone who is flexible in approach, a good communicator (verbal and written) and who can cope with a dynamic work approach where you will be supporting clients in a range of different industry sectors. The job is varied, sometimes challenging and never boring as we work with many industry sectors.
The successful applicant will be supported by an experienced safety practitioner team and directors who are IOSH Mentors. Full coaching and development will be given
We work throughout the UK, although the majority of work is in the south east of England, so travel is a frequent part of the role. We also support agile working and ability to work from home when report writing etc.
With over 30 years experience you will be in safe hands as an employer. We are committed to continuous professional development, and our standard is for our consultants to attain Chartered Practitioner status (H&S and environment) and lead auditor status for ISO systems.

What you’ll get in return:
- A competitive salary (circa £35-60K) depending on age/experience
- 23 days annual leave, excluding bank holidays, which increases after five years of service to a maximum of 30 days (an additional day every five years)

The Role will Include:
- Carrying out a range of audits (usually on site) and sometimes via desktop.
- Providing health and safety advice, written and oral.
- Representing our company at meetings.
- Sometimes working as the inhouse specialist advisor for a client (eg 1 or 2 days a week or month).
- Writing / reviewing risk assessments.
- Reviewing health and safety procedures and policies, including writing them from scratch.
- Developing safe systems of work.
- Delivering training (bespoke courses designed by PHSC as well as IOSH accredited courses). Training will be provided if you have limited experience.
The work will involve some travel, frequently requiring overnight stays (this will vary according to client need but is typically 3-4 nights per month).
Candidate requirements:
- Be qualified to level 6 Diploma (or equivalent)
- Have at least 3 years experience in health and safety / environmental application.
- Have a good knowledge of UK legislation and guidance,
- Be a member of IOSH or IIRSM (desirable but not essential prior to employment with us).
- Be able to work on their own initiative and have an ambition to self-improve and be part of a team.
- Be prepared to study / further develop, supported by our development programme, ie have sufficient self-discipline to study whilst working full time.
- Be able to stay overnight away from home (up to a few times per month).
- Have good links for work south of Birmingham but be willing to travel further when required, including to the office in Kent (or Northants) on occasion.
- Have a clean driving licence.
- Good interpersonal skills.
Further requirements:
- Strong technical knowledge and ability to interpret it to a range of different client sizes/needs.
- Good communication skills with the ability to build long-standing client relationships
- Have good links for work south of Birmingham but be willing to travel further when required, including to the office in Kent (or Northants) on occasion.
- Good use of English grammar, and ability to write reports
- Excellent computer skills including use of Microsoft Office
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage your own time
- A nature that thrives in a fast-paced, demanding environment and is self-motivated
- Patience, level-headedness, and the ability to work well under pressure
- The ability to think and react quickly and efficiently to changing demands and requirements, so flexibility and ability to adapt is key
- Motivation and drive to progress within the company
- A willingness to travel to sites elsewhere in the UK and spend the occasional night away from home
- Good interpersonal skills.
