We are proud to have become Katie’s primary sponsor, providing the support she needs in her quest to realise her full potential. Katie, aged 17, has trained in the martial arts since she was six, and has competed in the Olympic Sport Taekwondo since age seven.
In 2013, Katie retained her title as Junior British National Champion and competed internationally, becoming both Dutch and Belgian Champion in the -44kgs category. In February 2014, Katie became 2014 Luxembourg Open Champion in both Junior and Senior categories. Katie represented Great Britain at the 2014 WTF World Junior Championships in New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei in March 2014 and won the Bronze medal. She was also one of those selected to carry the Queen’s Baton ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2014.
Maintaining training and competing internationally has high cost implications and, in this sport, athletes are largely self-funded. All GB-related training takes place at the National Olympic Taekwondo Academy in Manchester, a 600 mile round trip from Katie’s home in Plymouth, often involving the additional cost of accommodation.
